About Marathi Department

The Department of Marathi was established in 1972, at the very inception of the college. Prof. Bapurao Jagtap was appointed as the first Head of Department. Mrs. Sheela Vipra joined in 1974, followed by Dr. Sanjay Shinde in 1998 and Mr. S. P. Giri in 2006.

The department is deeply committed to the promotion of Marathi language and literature. Dr. Sanjay Shinde is closely associated with the Dalit Movement and works actively for social upliftment. He has authored 7 books on the writings of Annabhau Sathe and has been honoured with two prestigious awards — the Annabhau Sathe Samajabhushan Puraskar and the Shikshak Ratna Puraskar. He holds expertise in folk literature (Loksahitya).

In addition to regular classroom teaching, the department organises distinguished guest lecture series — inviting eminent scholars for Marathi discourse. Students are encouraged to develop a love for literature through series of competitive events including debates and elocution competitions.
