About Political Science Department

The Department of Political Science was established at Vasantrao Naik Mahavidyalay in 1972. Mr. L. B. Chavan, a popular political activist, served as the first Head of Department. Mr. Ajit M. Dalvi, a renowned dramatist, joined the department in 1973 and made significant literary and academic contributions.

Political Science has consistently been one of the most popular optional subjects in the Arts faculty, attracting the maximum number of students each year. The subject equips students with a critical understanding of political systems, governance, constitutional frameworks, and international relations — making it highly relevant for careers in public service, law, journalism, research, and civil society.
